You Are More Than That

When we meet people for the first time, what is the most common question that is asked? "What do you do?" right? It gives us a gauge of who that person is, their station in life, their likes and dislikes...or so we think. The truth is that for everyone of us, no matter what it is that we do, whether we are married or single, whether or not we have children; we are more than that.

We are more than sons, more than daughters. We are more than nurses, more than mechanics. We are more than mothers, more than fathers.

We are divine beings with limitless potential; every last one of us.

It is empowering and frightening at the same time. Marianne Williamson has a famous quote: "Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."

So the next time you meet someone for the first time, you may consider asking: "What is your passion?" or "What lights you up?". And watch as he/she delights in realizing that another person has seen more in them.
